Bio

CC the Futurist – Curtis Carmichael is an award-winning author, professional speaker, STEM and STEAM education futurist, certified K-12 STEM teacher, social entrepreneur, and the founder of Source Code Academy Canada — Canada’s first culture-focused innovation and entrepreneurship academy preparing children and youth for the future of work. He is the critically acclaimed author and mobile app developer of the World’s First Augmented Reality Memoir, Butterflies in the Trenches . As a self taught programmer, Curtis built the mobile app that brings his memoir to life. Curtis has built a strong international reputation as a dedicated advocate for ensuring all communities—especially marginalized, underserved, and underestimated communities—have the financial, entrepreneurial, STEM, and STEAM education skills to thrive in the digital and global innovation economy. For Curtis it all started with a bicycle. After sacrificing a professional football career, Curtis cycled across Canada and fundraised $100,000 in 60 days for Toronto Community Housing after-school programs. He was featured in the award-winning documentary, Ride for Promise and was recognized as the only Canadian-based organization on the 2023 Forbes Top 30 Under 30 list for his achievements in the Education sector. As a respected voice in his field, Curtis’ national efforts and journey have landed him as a guest expert on all major news stations coast to coast, and in his spare time, Curtis was a Team Canada Duathlete for the 2021 Multi-sport World Championships. Curtis grew up in the Toronto housing projects in Scarborough as a childhood drug dealer but now has dedicated his life to advocating for Black and racialized youth in low-income communities locally and globally. He believes with conviction that every person is gifted, it is just a matter of having the right platform and opportunities to unwrap and use those gifts. Curtis’ guiding mission to elevate the social and economic fabric of every neighborhood he enters provides students, educators, and organizations with practical strategies to make a difference in their lives, schools, businesses, and communities. His book and its accompanying free curriculum guide is required reading for students, teachers, and professors in different K-12 schools and higher education across North America.
