The opportunity:

We’re currently hiring a Mi’kmaw Community Engagement Lead who will play an integral role in the leadership, development, and implementation of projects in Mi’kmaq communities, especially relating to the Mi’kmaw Home Energy Efficiency Project (MHEEP). This position will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Mi’kmaq Housing Managers and other band and non-band officials to ensure timely delivery of the MHEEP program, performing quality assurance reviews of retrofit projects, and resolving any issues with the MHEEP delivery agents.

Additionally, this role will lead relationships with community groups, associations, and partners with common goals and support the design and delivery of initiatives, events, and activities to build relationships and educate Mi’kmaq stakeholders.

 

  • Responsible for working closely with the Program Manager, Mi’kmaw Home Energy Efficiency Project, and Business Development Manager, Mi’kmaw Communities, to ensure the MHEEP program recruits participants, delivers on retrofit commitments, and performs educational and quality assurance commitments to the participants.
  • Responsible for being the main point of contact for continued internal stakeholder communication with Mi’kmaw Communities regarding the MHEEP program and external program delivery agents.
  • Responsible for gathering community feedback for ongoing improvements, creating detailed action findings, and providing recommendations for process improvement and program enhancement.
  • Facilitated communication between participants, contractors, and/or delivery partners supporting MHEEP retrofits.
  • Responsible for working with the communities, delivery partners, associations, and other partners to develop educational/training materials and schedule and conduct engagement events and initiatives.
  • Responsible for communicating regularly with the leaders and organizers in the communities.
  • Ensure community members are well informed on all Efficiency Nova Scotia
  • Support the development and offer feedback on all aspects of the Mi’kmaw Home Energy Efficiency Project, including, but not limited to, eligibility criteria, participant processes, eligible measures, website content, printed materials, application forms, and scopes of work for partners / internal staff.
  • Support the marketing and communications team in developing outreach and marketing strategies and materials.
  • Perform any other duties as required from time to time.

What Will Help You Succeed?

  • Existing relationships and demonstrated ability to work in and with Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia.
  • Technical knowledge of and aptitude for building science and energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Ability to work strategically with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management, including planning, designing, and execution, would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient with MS Office, primarily Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Proficiency in written communication with strong attention to detail and editing.
  • Demonstrated skills including customer focus, time management, and oral communication.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, take initiative, handle multiple tasks, and work to a high standard in an environment with tight timelines/deadlines.

What to expect in your first several weeks on the job:

In the first week, expect to:

  • Meet the Business Development and Mi’kmaw Home Energy Efficiency Project (MHEEP) teams, go through the training and onboarding process by meeting with other departments, learning about Efficiency Nova Scotia.
  • Meet our delivery agents for the MHEEP program
  • Training on software – SharePoint, Fresh Ticket.
  • Training and time to read program plan and work plan.
  • Read program materials, company information (SharePoint materials), and past annual reports to familiarize yourself with Efficiency Nova Scotia.
  • Meet the Mi’kmaw Business Development Manager to learn about expected duties, relationships, and stakeholders

In the first month, expect to:

  • Meet with key Mi’kmaw community stakeholders (housing managers, band managers, etc.)
  • Job shadows other teammates to learn about their roles and responsibilities.
  • Work with MHEEP and Business Development to learn how to perform quality assurance and delivery agent stakeholder communications.
  • Meet with the Mi’kmaw Community Roving Energy Manager to build a relationship and develop a plan to work together.
  • Work closely with the MHEEP project to train and learn how to execute projects.
  • Work closely with business development managers to learn about the program and projects.
  • Participate in program and Business Development meetings

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Perform core duties independently.
  • Participate in team meetings and stakeholder meetings.
  • Meet with a broader stakeholder network, including Tribal Councils, contractors, community members, and education partners.
  • Deliver on MHEEP Quality Assurance targets.
  • Managing budget forecasts and approving invoices.
  • Producing reports of completed and upcoming projects, including timelines, issues, and results.
  • Participate in team meetings with Program Managers.
  • Work with your manager to develop individual learning/development goals.
